Wine production is an important branch of Hungarian agriculture. The favorable terrain and climatic conditions allowed the emergence of a culture of grape growing and wine production centuries ago. Now there are 22 wine regions in Hungary, and each one has its own characteristic varieties.
In the old times, all work phases were performed by human labour, even transport of harvested fruit to the press house.
In the years of socialism, similarly to the other branch of agriculture, grape and wine production underwent major mechanization also. One of the major changes was the modernization of transport.
Although, fruit picking was made by hands yet, collecting the fruits from buckets and "puttonys" (it is a special vessel like a rucksack, see mek.oszk.hu) was done into big metal containers, which could be carried by a vehicle.
In the early 70s, IFA W50 became the determinative vehicle of the Hungarian agriculture, so there was a demand for using it in grape harvest also. The container systems UNIKON, whose production was started in the Hungarian factory UNITECH, in Barcs, seemed to be perfect for this task. So, the grape and wine producer agricultural cooperatives bought several IFA W50LA/Z trucks equipped with UNIKON H5000 and O5000 machineries instead of platforms. Besides, container transporter trailers are also in use in several wine regions.
Firms UNITECH and Hódgép also produced the uniaxial trailer Agrováz 5T/H-5000 for UNIKON H5000 machine, which are operated by tractors, which is the monopolistic model among the back-lifting models. Special uniaxial trailers for UNIKON O5000 machine also exist, the model Agrováz 5T/O-5000 was the most often used for this purpose, Tornádó models are also known, but quite rare. With very few exceptions, all of the UNIKON O5000 bearing trailers are right-sided.
The other commonly used tractor trailer for grape transportation is the use of tray trailers, especially in wine regions of the Hungarian Great Plain, where tractor-trailer combinations are rather used for grape processing than special trucks. Tray trailers are made of basic two-axle dump trailers, to which a rectangular trapezoidal square container is moundted onto the bottomplate of the original platform, and often has no lids. All of them are homemade, left-sided and right-sided ones are also common.

In addition, several other systems are used for this task, for example trailers having small tilteable containers, tanks and other solutions.
